Results and Records for Kumho NSW Supersprint Round 9
14 November 2011 | Eric Scheeren
As you know, the Australian Supersprint Championship has been held over the last two days at Eastern Creek along with the last Round of this year’s NSW State Supersprint Championship. So far as the Australian Championship is concerned, trophies were awarded to the first 3 Outright placegetters as well as to 17 Class winners. I’m very pleased to report that the 3 Outright place trophies were won by NSW State Supersprint Registrants and 15 of the Class trophies were also won by NSW State Supersprint Registrants. A great effort by the NSW guys. Details of the Australian Championship will be published later. The NSW Results were brought about by great preparation and effort plus a touch of local knowledge. I competed today and have to say that I was lucky enough to meet many of our interstate competitors from every state with the exception of Tasmania. To a tee they are great competitors and good guys who would love to meet us on their own turf.
Andrie Tan was the Outright National Champion in his Type 5 Radical with a time of 1.30.048 Stuart Inwood was second in his Type 4 Ford V8 Supercar with a Type and Class record breaking time of 1.35.994 Jason Wright was just a couple of tenths behind in third place in his Type SV WRX with another Type and Class record breaking time of 1.36.209
As I have said the NSW guys did do a great job and were hungry on the day. This is very evident as three of the six NSW Type Championship Records were broken as well as six Class Records.
TYPE RECORDS
Saba Hannia broke his own Type 1 and Class 1D record in his Mercedes AMG by almost a second with a time of 1.52.596.
Stuart Inwood broke his own Type 4 Record and Class 4D Record by almost a second with an exceptional time of 1.35.994. It should be noted that Stuart’s time is the fastest by a tin top in the Championship around the creek, breaking the fastest tin top time of Nick Kalis by about 1.5 seconds. This may spur Nick into action to see if he can nullify Stuart’s great performance.
Jason Wright broke Nick Kalis’s Type SV and Class SVD Record by 1.365 seconds with a time of 1.36.209
CLASS RECORDS
Elliot Caras broke Rex Hodder’s Class 2B record by 1.57 seconds in his Honda S2000 with a great time of 1.46.355 Rob Neal broke his own Class 3C Record by 1.634 seconds in his BMW with a time 1.46.291 Marek Tomaszewski shaved a few tenths of a second off his own Class 4E Record with a sub minute forty time of 1.38.309
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
NSWRRC took out the Club Championship narrowly from the MX5 Club, with the ARDC finishing in 3rd place. Its worthy to note that the Manly Warringal Sporting Car Club finished 4th with the Clubman Drivers Club in 5th place.
Adam Laura is a registrant in the Championship but does not appear in the results. The reason is that he ran yesterday in his BMW M3 (”The M3”) as a Type 4 car although he is registered in the Championship as a Type 3 car. As a result he did not score any points in the NSW Championship although his 1st place in the Nationals in Class 4C is recognised.
Congratulations to all the Type and Class Champions for 2011.
